Driftwood is one of a terrace of cottages built in the 1860's, originally it is thought for fishermen and coastguards, on what was then "a field known as Little Roundham adjacent to Roundham Head", and is close to Paignton Harbour.

Those visiting out of season will find the property warm and comfortable as it has the benefit of both double glazed windows and central heating.

The harbour is still used by working shell fishermen who fish the local waters for crab and lobster. Leisure facilities there include pleasure boats which provide both day and evening cruises in Torbay and the surrounding areas, angling trips, water sports and hire of equipment. There are also ferries to Brixham and Torquay in season.

|
In addition, around the harbour, there are restaurants and cafes and a Post Office store. From the north quay there is a walkway through to the main Paignton beach and the esplanade with multiplex cinema. From here it is a few minutes walk to the town centre.

At the end of the south quay is Fairy Cove, a small, often overlooked, beach with steps leading up to the gardens in Cliff Road. The coastal path leads from Cliff Road over Roundham Head, with views over the bay, past the Pitch and Putt course and down through Goodrington Cliff Walk to Goodrington beach, where the attractions include the Quaywest Water Park, and the Seashore Centre.

Other attractions in the local area include; Paignton Zoo Environmental Park which has thousands of animals and plants housed in different habitat zones and was featured in a Zoo Story and previously in the BBC program The Zoo Keepers. Oldway Mansion, built for the Singer family, where Paris Singer stayed with the ill-fated Isadora Duncan. Occombe Farm and the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway which runs for seven miles from Paignton down to Kingswear with coastal and River Dart views. In nearby Torquay: Babbacombe Model Village, Kents Cavern, Cockington Country Park and Living Coasts with a range of coastal creatures. On the other side of Torbay in Brixham: Berry Head Nature Reserve, Brixham Heritage Museum, Breakwater and Strand Art Galleries and in Brixham Harbour, a replica of the Golden Hind. Near Kingswear is Coleton Fishacre, a National Trust garden and Arts and Crafts style house.
